Kristen (COACH SCHU) Schumacher.
VARSITY VOLLEYBALL ASSISTANT COACH / FRESHMAN VOLLEYBALL HEAD COACH
Biography:
Hi! I’m Coach Schumacher, but you can shorten it to Coach Schu. Volleyball has been a part of my life since seventh grade. I played for Central from ‘94-’98 and then played for Aquinas College as a four-year starting middle, front and back row. My coaching experience began in high school with camps and club teams, and it continued to a freshman team and eventually Central’s Varsity team for my first three years as a teacher in the district. I am in my twentieth year as an English teacher at Central, and you may see my husband, Mr. Schu, around the volleyball court as he is also an English teacher at Central as well as a huge fan of Central athletics. I have two daughters who have a similar love for the sport and are both Walled Lake students and athletes. In addition to coaching volleyball and teaching, I am also a certified yoga instructor. In my freetime, I enjoy being outside regardless of the weather, reading, spending time with my family, and walking my dog, Dexter. What I love about volleyball is I see it as the ultimate team sport. Every play requires that all athletes work together to be “in system,” and that only works with complete trust. Each athlete has to trust the others to run their routes, know their fundamentals, and show up with a pass, a block, a set, or anything else that the moment demands; and when the athletes do this, they end up being successful. Volleyball is a dynamic, high-intensity sport that is fun to watch and even more fun to coach.
